Another picture perfect day of running provided the backdrop for the 1600+ runners participating in the 7th Annual Folsom Blues Breakout events. The event celebrates the legacy of Johnny Cash and his famed relationship with Folsom Prison by providing the participants and volunteers unique Johnny Cash-themed technical t-shirts, rockabilly music from the start in the shadow of Folsom Prison to the finish in Historic Folsom, colorful and unique finisher medallions, and a Johnny Cash tribute band at the Finish Festival in Folsom Station Plaza.
The scenic, rockabilly-music-filled Half Marathon and Relay start at Folsom Crossing next to Folsom Lake, the Folsom Dam, and bordering the Folsom Prison grounds. Once again it used an out and back route from Historic Folsom on the South side of the lake with a lollipop loop around the Nimbus State Recreation Area. The 5K route remained the same, starting on Folsom Crossing and taking runners across the iconic Rainbow Bridge on its “Fastest Course in the West”, point-to-point, downhill course.
The popular location of the Finish Line and Finish Festival returned to Folsom Station Plaza, between Leidesdorff and Sutter Streets. Finishers enjoyed the post race refreshments, a Vendor Expo, Beer Garden and Johnny Cash Tribute Band. Spectators, family and friends had a clear view for cheering their runners as they "crossed that line"!
